First Congregational Church, Milton
Milton, Massachusetts
Aeolian-Skinner Opus 914, 1934
Restoration and relocation completed in 2000.

Spencer Organ Company, Inc. removed Aeolian-Skinner Opus 914 from the O. Lee Harrison house in May of 1998. This ten-stop instrument included 13 ranks divided between two chambers, its specification including three celestes and a concentration of orchestral effects suitable for roll-operated performance of orchestral and popular music. Over the next 18 months, all perishable materials in the organ were replaced and the instrument reconfigured to fit into the newly constructed chamber in Milton. Installation began in October of 1999 and the instrument first played Thanksgiving Sunday of that year.

The original pipework was carefully conserved intact. An Octave, Mixture and pedal 16ft reed extension were added to support congregational singing. The console was stripped and refinished to match the existing church woodwork, and its internal mechanisms replaced with solid-state. The ivory keyboards were restored, and all ivory hardware retained, using blank tablets to control the additions. The rebuilt instrument now contains 18 ranks and 1,121 pipes.
